You ever get goose bumps when a singer sings or musician plays? Well, that’s what happened to me when legendary gospel and blues musician Reverend Gary Davis takes the stage at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival and starts playing his guitar at the beginning of the documentary. The film does a good job of giving us a “portrait” of the Reverend, bordering on a tribute. Interviews with contemporaries and former Davis disciples bring heart and soul to the film that make it a must see even for non-musicians.
